This week I have been teaching at West Dean College Sussex, UK, on my new course on how to make a set of artist’s quality watercolours and pastels. Thanks to all who came and made it such a colourful, industrious week. We found and ground pigments, levigated, mulled, filtered and mixed to our hearts’ content, all in a beautiful purpose built studio. I hope to be back again in the not too distant future.
West Dean has beautiful grounds but rain stopped me heading out after work each day to explore very much, and also the tasty food kept me in the dining room, to be honest…
The staff are great and the facilities were tremendous, although the very well-stocked craft supplies shop is dangerous (to the wallet) as they seemed to have all the odd things I needed – bookbinding needles, Khadi paper, large mount board, A1 folders, empty watercolour palettes…
It was a joy to be part of Pigment Week with four other passionate tutors and to finally hang out with longtime colour colleague and ‘guardian of the rocks’ @peteward.artist along with my dear friend ‘Lady of the Lakes’ @lucyirmamayes of @londonpigment – see the last slide. Huge gratitude to @jonnyrandallfilm who drove me and my massive boxes of rocks to Sussex for his great company.
More from me soon when I get my voice back!
